January is seed order planning month for farmers and gardeners alike. Before you make your orders join the Montana Seed School organizers for a Seed Social, an evening dedicated to organizing a seed commons that will support western Montana's robust local food economy. Missoula's own Kiki Hubbard of the Organic Seed Alliance and Native Seed/SEARCH's Executive Director, Bill McDorman, will lead a discussion on the politics of seed, on-farm participatory plant breeding and how to ensure a seed commons by starting a seed library and a seed cooperative in your community.
The Seed Social will take place Monday January 21 from 5:30 - 8 pm at the Burns Street Commons, 1500 Burns Street, Missoula. The event is free and open to the public. Dinner catered by Biga Pizza is optional at an additional cost of $8 and requires an RSVP by Friday January 18th.
