In early December Community Food and Agriculture Coalition hosted the first-ever Partners On the Plate event. The event focused on bringing producers and chefs together and supporting meaningful connections between the two.
The evening kicked off with a presentation from the guest speaker, Kris Komori. Kris spoke about his experience as a chef, and now a restaurant owner, and the creative ways he has worked with producers throughout his career.
After hearing from Kris, attendees gathered for the next portion of the event. Designed to support farmer and chef connections, producers and chefs were paired based on products they grow and the products they wish to buy. Each producer/chef pair was given 10 minutes to talk with each other before meeting with a new chef/producer.
The gathering took place at The Barn on Mullan, an event center at the western edge of Missoula. Support from local businesses and groups, such as Basal, Conflux Brewery, Good Food Store, Big Sky Culinary, and the Barn on Mullan, along with funding from a USDA-NIFA grant, help make the evening a success.
CFAC hopes to make the Partners On the Plate an annual affair and we look forward to supporting collaboration between farmers and chefs in the future.
