Harts Garden and Nursery, at the foot of Blue Mountain and just west of downtown Missoula, is an oasis for all things floral. This unique slice of farmland boasts a garden filled with thousands of budding peonies and a high tunnel brimming with floral experiments such as eucalyptus trees and giant fried-egg poppies. It proves to be a wonderful spot for a garden party.
Guests of the inaugural 406 Farm Feast had the chance to dine among the flowers, sip on local beverages, and dig into a marvelous mix of farm fresh flavors catered by local chef, Marianne Forrest. All-local eggs, greens, chicken, and cherries were stars of the menu.
Around the family style table and in the company of hosts George and Marcia Hart, guests shared stories of local food, farming, and CFAC while soaking up the sunshine. It was a delightful way to spend a Sunday evening in June.
CFAC will continue to celebrate the local farms and food of Missoula’s Target Range this summer and fall. Be sure to mark your calendars and show your support for local farmers and our mission to build a more vibrant, sustainable, and accessible food system.
August 4th: Blue Mountain Bike to Barns will take guests on a 15-mile round-trip ride through the neighborhood and will include stops at participating farms. Guests will hear from local farmers, explore their farms, and get a taste of their products. Afterwards, the celebration of local food will continue with a tasty, well-deserved BBQ (open to the public). Register here.
August 18th: The next 406 Farm Feast will be hosted by Greg Peters and Julie Engh-Peters on their berry farm and fruit orchard, Red Hen Farm & Orchard. Details and tickets to come.
September 8th: The following 406 Farm Feast will be hosted by Dick and Barb Mangan for a ranch style BBQ on their cattle ranch, Mangan Angus Ranch. Details and tickets to follow.
